Classes are by default static entities, while objects are more fluid and dynamic. An object is a specific representation of a class, containing all the properties and methods outlined within. It includes all the objects’ properties and behaviors. We discuss more in detail below.Īs previously highlighted, a class provides a template for object construction in Java. As noted earlier, the OOP programming paradigm emphasizes using objects to represent real-world concepts, with OOP meaning the use of classes and objects, inheritance, encapsulation, abstraction, and polymorphism to achieve this goal. The major advantage of the OOP framework in Java is that it lays the foundation for building modular, scalable, and efficient software. Even a basic program in Java is using classes, so Java is an OOP language. Generally speaking, this class is referred to as the Main class. If you are familiar with Java programming, you must have noticed that whenever a program is written it is written inside a class, like the public class. We’ll explore these more later using Java.Ĭheck out our article What is Object Oriented Programming? for a refresher on these four principles before continuing here. The four main principles of OOP are inheritance, encapsulation, abstraction, and polymorphism. OOP also helps to solve the problem of complexity by dividing the program into different objects. Many beginners prefer to use OOP languages because they are more intuitive. In fact, objects in a program frequently represent real-world objects. OOP makes it easy to model real-world things and the relationships between them. These properties could be their name, age, and role. For example, say our object is an Employee. In OOP, an object is defined with its own properties. ![]() A class is like a blueprint for creating objects. Objects have their own properties and behavior. That’s what is multilevel inheritance.Object-oriented programming, also referred to as OOP, is a programming paradigm based on the concept of classes and objects. Here A is the parent class for B and class B is the parent class for C. So in this case class C implicitly inherits the properties and methods of class A along with Class B. If we talk about the flowchart, class B inherits the properties and behavior of class A and class C inherits the properties of class B. a class having more than one parent class but at different levels, such type of inheritance is called Multilevel Inheritance. When a class is derived from a class which is also derived from another class, i.e. Let’s see the syntax for single inheritance: Here, Class A is your parent class and Class B is your child class which inherits the properties and behavior of the parent class. This will in turn enable code reusability as well as add new features to the existing code. It enables a derived class to inherit the properties and behavior from a single parent class. In single inheritance, one class inherits the properties of another. So let’s begin with the first type of inheritance i.e. Inheritance is further classified into 4 types: Child class (Subclass or Derived class )Ī class which inherits the properties is known as Child Class whereas a class whose properties are inherited is known as Parent class. Similarly, in Java, there are two classes:Ģ. It helps to reuse the code and establish a relationship between different classes.Īs we can see in the image, a child inherits the properties from his father. Inheritance is one such concept where the properties of one class can be inherited by the other. In OOP, computer programs are designed in such a way where everything is an object that interact with one another. Object Oriented Programming : Inheritance Let’s get started with the first Java OOPs concept with Example, i.e. However, there are a few challenges associated with OOP, namely: ![]()
![]() ![]() It was targeted at the growing demand for high-capacity, medium-range, transcontinental trunk routes. The B9 was essentially a lengthened A300 with the same wing, coupled with the most powerful turbofan engines available. In the mid-1970s, Airbus began development of the A300B9, a larger derivative of the A300, which would eventually become the A330. During these studies Airbus turned its focus back to the wide-body aircraft market, simultaneously working on both projects. Airbus then focused its efforts on single-aisle (SA) studies, conceiving a family of airliners later known as the Airbus A320 family, the first commercial aircraft with digital fly-by-wire controls. A tenth variant, the A300B10, was conceived in 1973 and developed into the longer-range Airbus A310. ![]() Before introducing the A300, Airbus identified nine possible variations designated B1 through B9. Pursuing this goal, studies began in the early 1970s into derivatives of the A300. It is complemented by the larger Airbus A350, which succeeded the four-engined A340.ĭevelopment Background Airbus jetliners, 1972–1994Ī330 and A340 seating and range comparisonĪirbus's first airliner, the A300, was envisioned as part of a diverse family of commercial aircraft. It competes with the Boeing 767, smaller variants of the Boeing 777, and the 787. The A330 is the second most delivered wide-body airliner after the Boeing 777. The global A330 fleet had accumulated more than 60 million flight hours since its entry into service. As of June 2023, A330 orders stood at 1,781 of which 1,573 had been delivered and 1,459 were in service with 143 operators. Earlier A330s (-200/200F/300) are now called A330ceo ( current engine option).ĭelta Air Lines is currently the largest operator with 64 airplanes in its fleet. With the exclusive, more efficient Trent 7000 turbofan and improvements including sharklets, it offers up to 14% better fuel economy per seat. In July 2014, Airbus announced the re-engined A330neo ( new engine option) comprising A330-800/900, which entered service with TAP Air Portugal in December 2018. The A330 MRTT was proposed as the EADS/Northrop Grumman KC-45 for the US Air Force's KC-X competition, but lost to the Boeing KC-46 in appeal after an initial win. Other variants include the A330-200F dedicated freighter, the A330 MRTT military tanker, and the ACJ330 corporate jet. The A330 was Airbus's first airliner to offer a choice of three engines: the General Electric CF6, Pratt & Whitney PW4000, or the Rolls-Royce Trent 700. Both airliners have fly-by-wire controls as well as a similar glass cockpit to increase the commonality. The A330 shares its airframe with the early A340 variants, but having two main landing gear legs instead of three, lower weights, and slightly different lengths. The slightly shorter A330-200 variant followed in 1998. The A330-300, the first variant, took its maiden flight in November 1992 and entered service with Air Inter in January 1994. Then the company began development on the A330 twinjet in parallel with the A340 quadjet and launched both designs with their first orders in June 1987. Fusionįusion occurs when two low-mass isotopes combine under conditions of extreme heat and pressure. The energy that is produced is used to heat water into steam, producing electricity by turning turbines to power a generator. The neutrons that are released create further fission reactions that continue the process with other uranium-235 atoms. Most nuclear reactors use uranium-235 as the target nucleus into which a neutron is accelerated to split the atom into two smaller isotopes (called ‘fission products’) as well as three more neutrons, releasing a large amount of energy. The energy required for fusion has been a barrier to its widespread use for energy generation Fusion needs more energy to accomplish than fission does.Fusion doesn’t produce harmful long-term radioactive waste as a by-product like fission does. The fusion reaction releases more energy than fission.Fission releases energy when atoms are split, while fusion releases energy when atoms are joined. What Are The Key Differences?Īlthough both fusion and fission use atomic energy, there are a number of key differences between the two processes: Other, alternative reactors being tested use lasers to heat and compress hydrogen fuel to create fusion. These conditions allow the highly energised particles to overcome their natural electromagnetic repulsion as they collide, fusing them together and releasing huge amounts of energy. The energised plasma particles collide and heat up as auxiliary heating systems increase the temperature to the required levels for fusion (150-300 million ☌). These temperatures are ten times that found at the core of the Sun, but are needed for the process as it is impossible to create the gravitational pressure within the Sun instead. This plasma is a superheated, ionised gas that needs to be contained by strong magnetic fields as it can reach temperatures of 100,000,000☌ or more. When subjected to high heat and pressure electrons are forced away from the deuterium atoms to create a plasma. While still being developed, a fusion reactor (known as a tokamak) uses a gas – usually a hydrogen isotope that can be extracted from seawater called deuterium. This process occurs naturally in the centre of stars like the Sun and creates no long-term radioactive waste or greenhouse gases.įusion power plants operate in a similar manner to fission plants, using the heat generated by the atomic reaction to heat water, produce steam, drive turbines and generate electricity, but it has been a challenge to create the required conditions in a fusion reactor without consuming more energy than is produced. Nuclear fusion is the process of combining atomic nuclei rather than splitting them (as with fission) to produce energy. For example, uranium-235 atoms split into nuclei of krypton and barium along with three extra neutrons that create fission chain reactions by hitting other uranium-235 atoms. Neutrons are then fired at the uranium atoms, causing them to split and release more neutrons that hit other atoms, creating a chain reaction that splits more atoms, releasing energy as heat and radiation. The process of splitting an atom at a power plant involves placing uranium in sealed metal cylinders inside a steel reactor vessel. ![]() As the process uses uranium rather than fossil fuels to generate the heat, there are no carbon emissions with the nuclear fission process. This energy is released as heat and radiation, with the heat being used by a nuclear power plant to boil water into steam to turn a turbine and drive generators to produce electricity. ![]() Nuclear fission involves the splitting of atoms to release the binding energy of the atomic nuclei. ![]() |
